In a report addressing Washington’s refusal to investigate the incident, the newspaper stated: "US-made bombs destroyed a detention center for Ethiopian migrants in Yemen, crushing bodies and severing limbs."
It added that "amid official silence, survivors wonder why," implicitly suggesting that Washington’s dismissal of inquiries clearly implicates the U.S. Air Force in this well-documented war crime.
Commenting on footage documented by Yemeni media and international organizations, the report noted: "They fled war in Ethiopia, only to be bombed by the US in Yemen."
On May 19, Amnesty International issued a statement condemning the attack as "the worst since 2017," referencing a similar US-committed massacre in Iraq that left dozens dead.
After conducting an investigation—based on satellite imagery, videos, and testimonies from refugee workers—Amnesty concluded that "this crime must be investigated as a violation of international humanitarian law."
Meanwhile, the Yemeni Executive Mine Action Center reported on April 30 that it had recovered remnants of an internationally banned US bomb used in the massacre.
The bomb was identified as a GBU-39 JDAM, a bunker-busting weapon. The center emphasized that using such high-impact explosives on civilian targets constitutes a grave breach of international law, noting that this type of bomb is among the most dangerous prohibited weapons, posing severe risks to civilians and infrastructure.
Upon detonation, the bomb generates temperatures of 3,500°C, leading to widespread cancer, birth defects, and fatal pregnancies. It also causes long-term environmental devastation, contaminating soil, air, and groundwater, and destroying ecosystems in affected areas.
Yemen’s Interior Ministry in Sanaa confirmed that the U.S. attack on the migrant shelter on April 28 killed 68 people and wounded 47.
