News - Yemen: Yemen has declared its full solidarity with Iraq regarding the victims of the fire that broke out in a commercial center in the city of Al-Kut.

In an official statement, the Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates extended sincere condolences and sympathy to the Iraqi government and people for the victims of the fire, which resulted in dozens of deaths and injuries. The statement also conveyed condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

On Thursday, a massive fire at the Corniche Hypermarket in Al-Kut, eastern Iraq, killed at least 77 people and left several missing. The blaze trapped shoppers and workers inside the five-story mall. Rescue teams saved 45 survivors, some escaping through the roof.

Governor Mohammed al-Mayahi called it a “tragedy and calamity,” with recovery efforts ongoing and DNA testing needed to identify victims. Eyewitnesses described horrifying scenes of people trapped inside.

Separately, a fire and explosions at textile warehouses in Karbala killed four more people. Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani ordered an urgent investigation and declared three days of national mourning.
