News- Middle East: The Iranian Embassy in Tokyo has strongly condemned a joint EU-Japan statement regarding US-Israeli actions against Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities and civil infrastructure, labeling it as "biased and misleading."

In a statement released on Thursday, the Iranian mission said that the declaration at the end of the 30th summit of the EU and Japan in Tokyo on July 23 is demonstrably "biased and misleading" in several key aspects. 

“It presents the aggressor and the victim of aggression as equals, thus conspicuously failing to condemn the unlawful attacks by the Israeli regime and the US on Iran, while calling for restraint,” the embassy said. 

The embassy further held the 27-member European bloc accountable for the ongoing crisis regarding Iran's peaceful nuclear energy program.

"The EU's purported commitment, including that of its member states, to support a diplomatic solution to the Iranian nuclear issue rings hollow, as they bear substantial responsibility for the current crisis surrounding Iran's peaceful nuclear program."

The embassy emphasized that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), acting under pressure from Western powers, had issued a politicized report that provided Israel with a pretext to attack Iran.

“This includes their failure to adhere to their commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and their harmful actions in the IAEA Board of Governors, which ultimately led to an overly politicized report and a subsequent resolution that was used as a pretext for the Israeli regime's criminal attacks on Iran's peaceful nuclear facilities."

The IAEA Board of Governors passed an anti-Iran resolution on June 12, just one day before the Israeli regime launched its unprovoked aggression against the Islamic Republic, claiming that Iran was in breach of its nuclear obligations.

Observers note that Britain, France, and Germany, collectively known as the E3, have also repeatedly violated the terms of the 2015 nuclear deal.

The resolution drafted under intense pressure” from the UK, France, Germany, and later, the US, was based on excessive hints from IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi. 

The embassy said the Joint Declaration unfairly places demands on Iran without acknowledging Iran's reciprocal right to verifiable sanctions removal.

In a recent letter addressed to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi emphasized that France, Germany, and the UK have supported Israel’s aggression toward Iran, rejected the fundamental tenets of the JCPOA, and failed to honor their commitments to the JCPOA agreement.

The top Iranian diplomat also said that the three European nations lack the legal, political, and moral authority to invoke the snapback mechanism of the 2015 nuclear deal.

The E3 must not be permitted to undermine the credibility of the UN Security Council by misusing a resolution that they themselves have not honored, Araghchi added.

For their part, several European countries have failed to condemn the US and Israeli aggression, drawing sharp criticism from Iranian officials.

Tehran has since complained against Grossi and US-led Western rulers for taking sides and turning a blind eye to Israel’s aggression on Iran’s nuclear energy facilities.

Multiple IAEA resolutions state that any use of force against peaceful nuclear facilities is illegal under international law.
