Gaza Authorities Say Israel Is Deliberately ‘Engineering Starvation’

News- Middle East: Gaza’s Interior Ministry says Israel is deliberately fueling chaos and “engineering starvation” by preventing aid from reaching those in need across the beseiged Palestinian region.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the ministry said Israeli forces were allowing “gangs and thugs” to loot and attack aid trucks, reselling the supplies at inflated prices and leaving families without the food they cannot afford.

The statement further said Israel has systematically targeted community and tribal protection teams in an effort to block any organized distribution of humanitarian aid.

The ministry also pointed to an attack earlier today in northern Gaza that killed and wounded several Palestinians.

The ministry urged the international community to pressure Israel to allow agencies, especially the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA), to safely deliver aid across Gaza.

The ministry demanded a swift action by the international community against Israel, warning that global silence amounts to complicity in a policy of starvation that is “claiming lives daily”.

The developments come as hunger-related deaths in Gaza continue to soar amid the Israeli-induced famine.

Mohammed Zaqout, Gaza’s director of general hospitals, said that at least 106 children were among 235 people dying from starvation.

He urged the international community to intervene immediately to allow much-needed aid into the besieged strip, warning that deaths from malnutrition could soon affect most communities in Gaza.

“These cases will soon be in the thousands, if nothing changes,” Zaqout was quoted as saying.

The director stressed that the Palestinian children in particular were bearing the brunt of Israel's ongoing genocidal war on the coastal strip.

“Children are among the weakest and most vulnerable to malnutrition,” Zaqout said. “We have no treatments to save them, not even intravenous feeding, which is used in emergency cases like those we are seeing now.”

The crisis unfolds as Israeli forces continue their relentless assault on Gaza, causing escalating loss of life and widespread destruction across the aid-deprived territory.

Israel’s genocidal war, which began in October 2023, has so far killed over 61,700 Palestinians, mostly women and children.
