The Hague-based court issued the remarks in a statement on Wednesday after Washington imposed coercive measures on four ICC judges.
The sanctions “constitute an affront against the Court’s States Parties, the rules-based international order and, above all, millions of innocent victims across the world,” it said.
The tribunal made fresh references to the targeted individuals, identifying them as Kimberly Prost from Canada, Nicolas Guillou from France, Deputy Prosecutor Nazhat Shameem Khan from Fiji, and Deputy Prosecutor Mame Mandiaye Niang of Senegal.
Guillou presided over a pre-trial panel that issued arrest warrants for Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former minister for military affairs Yoav Gallant last November. The duo were found culpable for committing war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip, where the Israeli regime has been waging a genocidal war since October 2023.
According to the US State Department, Prost has been sanctioned for “ruling to authorize the ICC’s investigation into US personnel in Afghanistan.”
Khan and Niang have been sanctioned for supporting arrest warrants against Netanyahu and Gallant.
They have also been trying to submit arrest warrant applications against extremist Israeli ministers, Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich, on apartheid charges.
“These sanctions are a flagrant attack against the independence of an impartial judicial institution, which operates under the mandate from 125 States Parties from all regions,” the ICC wrote about the measures.
“The Court stands firmly behind its personnel and victims of unimaginable atrocities,” it added.
“The ICC will continue fulfilling its mandate, undeterred, in strict accordance with its legal framework as adopted by the States Parties and without regard to any restriction, pressure or threat.”
The sanctions follow previous designation of four other judges and the ICC’s Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan.
On February 13, 2025, the US Department of the Treasury added Khan to its "Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons List," barring him from entering the US and freezing his assets in the country.
Khan has gone on a suspicious leave since being threatened by an Israel-linked ICC lawyer, who had told him he would be “destroyed” if he did not withdraw the warrants against Netanyahu and Gallant.
