Yemen’s Human Rights Commission Condemns Israeli Attacks as War Crimes

News - Yemen: Yemen’s National Human Rights Commission, affiliated with the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, strongly condemned on Sunday the Israeli criminal aggression targeting the Hiziz power station south of Sana’a, the Oil Company station on Al-Sittin Street, and several densely populated civilian neighborhoods.

In an official statement, the Commission described the attacks as a blatant and serious violation of international humanitarian law and international human rights law, rising to the level of a fully constituted war crime under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.

The statement highlighted that targeting residential areas constitutes a cowardly criminal act, reflecting Israel’s failure and recklessness, and represents a clear assault on Yemen’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as a flagrant violation of the UN Charter and international law principles.

The Commission held the Israeli entity fully legally responsible for this crime and its dangerous repercussions on regional and international peace and security.

It affirmed that this aggression will not deter Yemen from its steadfast position supporting the Palestinian cause and the resilience of the Palestinian people in Gaza; rather, it will strengthen Yemen’s support and enhance its popular and military presence.

The Commission urged the international community, including the UN, the Security Council, and the Human Rights Council, to fulfill their legal and moral responsibilities by condemning the criminal targeting of civilians and civilian facilities and taking urgent action to halt such attacks and prevent their recurrence.

It also called for an independent, impartial international investigation under UN supervision to hold those responsible accountable for this crime and all Israeli violations.

Finally, the National Human Rights Commission emphasized its commitment to documenting this crime and other violations, pursuing all legal international measures to prosecute the perpetrators, ensure justice for victims, and prevent impunity.

The airstrikes on Sana’a came a day after Israeli media reported growing concern over Yemen’s advancing missile capabilities. Israeli outlets cited air force sources saying Yemen may have used a multiple-warhead ballistic missile for the first time, a development that could challenge Israel’s missile defense systems.

Since late 2023, Yemen has intensified operations in response to the Israeli enemy’s war on Gaza, combining a naval blockade of Israel-linked shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden with long-range missile and drone strikes deep inside occupied territories. The latest escalation, including hypersonic and suspected multiple-warhead missiles, has amplified pressure on Israel’s security establishment and provoked retaliatory strikes on Yemen.
