News - Middle East: Iranian police forces have struck a significant blow against foreign-backed terrorists in the country’s southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan, killing eight terrorists responsible for a recent deadly attack on members of law enforcement forces in the region.

Police spokesman General Saeed Montazer al-Mahdi said that servicemen from the Law Enforcement Command of the Islamic Republic of Iran (FARAJA), together with intelligence and security units, carried out a successful operation against the militants on Wednesday and eliminated them all.

According to Montazer al-Mahdi, a considerable amount of weapons and ammunition was recovered from the slain terrorists.  

On August 22, five members of the Iranian law enforcement forces were killed in a terrorist attack. The terrorists targeted two police patrol units in the Daman District of Iranshahr County as the security forces were on duty.

The so-called Jaish al-Adl terrorist group claimed responsibility for the shooting attack.

The crime followed another vicious terrorist attack on July 26, when three armed assailants from the Jaish al-Adl militant outfit attacked the Sistan and Balouchestan provincial courthouse in Zahedan.

In that deliberate attack against civilians, six innocent individuals, including a mother and her six-month-old baby, tragically lost their lives, and 24 others sustained injuries.

 Sistan and Baluchestan province, which borders Pakistan, has witnessed several terror attacks targeting both civilians and security forces over the past years. 

Terrorist groups carrying out attacks against Iranian interests in the southeastern and southwestern parts of the country are believed to be linked to foreign intelligence services.

On October 26 last year, ten members of Iran's law enforcement forces were killed in a terrorist attack in the Gohar Kuh district of Taftan County in the province.

The Jaish al-Adl terrorist group claimed responsibility for the assault, which was one of the deadliest in the province in recent months.
