Yemen Blames International Silence for Encouraging Israeli 'Crime' Against Its Government

News - Yemen: The Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent letters to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the President of the Security Council, the member states of the UN, the European Union, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General to Yemen, regarding the crime of the Zionist entity targeting the Government's ministers.

In a statement on Monday evening, the Yemeni Foreign Ministry said: "Last Thursday, the Zionist aggression, in a cowardly and treacherous crime, targeted the head and members of the government." It confirmed that targeting the government is a precedent in the history of international relations and a violation of international laws and agreements.

The statement indicated that the international community's silence is what encouraged the Zionist entity to carry out this dangerous escalation that threatens the security and stability of the region, stressing that the Zionist entity must be forced to comply with international law and end its policy of impunity.

The statement from the Yemeni Foreign Ministry added that the Yemeni position in support of Gaza is consistent with international law and comes after an international failure to stop the genocide in Gaza, reiterating that Yemen's position will remain steadfast until the aggression is ended and the siege imposed on Gaza is lifted.

The Yemeni Foreign Ministry concluded its statement by affirming that the government will continue to perform its role within the framework of managing affairs and providing services to the Yemeni people.

On August 28, 2025, an Israeli aggression in Sana’a killed Prime Minister Ahmed Ghaleb Al-Rahwi and several government ministers during a meeting. The attack, condemned as a violation of international law and a direct strike on civilians, was seen as an attempt to weaken Yemen’s political command amid escalating regional tensions.

Yemen’s swift institutional response, popular mobilization, and immediate retaliatory operations—including a strike on an Israeli oil tanker in the Red Sea—have reinforced national unity and emphasized Yemen’s commitment to defending Palestine and confronting aggression.

Since October 2023, Yemen has emerged as a central front in the regional war, targeting Israeli-linked vessels in the Red and Arabian seas in support of Gaza. These attacks disrupted Israeli shipping, forced rerouting around Africa, and prompted US-British intervention. Despite months of Western airstrikes, Yemeni forces have expanded their missile and drone operations, striking deep inside Israeli-occupied territories.
