According to the agency, the move reflects growing internal dissent against the Israeli enemy government and its prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu. Demonstrations have erupted accusing Netanyahu of “prolonging the war instead of reaching an agreement to secure the return of captives.”
In parallel, a group of soldiers’ mothers has formed a protest movement demanding an end to sending their sons to fight on the Gaza front.
Quoting one soldier, the agency noted: “The soldiers are exhausted and frustrated, and they don’t know why they are fighting,” highlighting discontent within army ranks amid the protracted military campaign.
These developments come as both domestic and international pressure intensifies on Netanyahu’s government, which faces growing calls to halt the war and pursue political solutions to end the ongoing crisis.
Netanyahu’s government has faced mounting criticism at home, not only for the failure to secure the release of captives held in Gaza but also for its inability to present a clear political or military endgame.
Public anger has been further fueled by the high human and economic cost of the war, with thousands of Israeli soldiers wounded or killed, and families of conscripts increasingly vocal in opposing continued deployments. Mothers of soldiers have become a particularly visible force, organizing demonstrations that resonate with wider segments of Israeli society weary of prolonged conflict.
Internationally, Netanyahu’s administration is under unprecedented diplomatic pressure. Western allies have expressed unease over the scale of devastation in Gaza, while regional actors warn that the war threatens broader instability across the Middle East.
Analysts suggest that the refusal of soldiers to serve reflects a deeper erosion of morale within the Israeli military, raising questions about the sustainability of the campaign in Gaza and the government’s capacity to withstand both domestic dissent and international condemnation.
