News- Middle East: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will set off for Doha to take part in an emergency Arab-Islamic summit in response to the recent Israeli attack targeting leaders of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas in the Qatari capital.

Heading a delegation, the Iranian president will leave Tehran for Doha on Monday to attend the summit.

The Israeli regime on Tuesday attacked a residential compound in Doha targeting Hamas’s leadership. Senior Hamas officials survived the attack, but five Hamas members and a Qatari security officer were killed. 

Hamas leaders were meeting to discuss a new US-proposed deal to end the war in Gaza, which has killed more than 64,803 people since October 2023. Qatar, along with the US and Egypt, has been a mediator in negotiations to end the war.

“The summit will discuss a draft resolution on the Israeli attack on the State of Qatar, submitted by the preparatory meeting of Arab and Islamic foreign ministers, which will be held tomorrow, Sunday,” Majed bin Mohammed Al-Ansari, adviser to the prime minister and spokesman for the Foreign Ministry, said on Saturday.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi earlier said that Pezeshkian would explicitly declare the Islamic Republic’s position on the Israeli strike at the summit. 

The time is ripe for action as uttering words will no longer bear fruit, the top Iranian diplomat said. 

In a post on his X account on Saturday, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani pointed to the upcoming Doha summit and warned that without action, such meetings are in fact equivalent to issuing a new order to Israel to carry out more acts of aggression.
