Basem Naim, a member of Hamas's political bureau, made the appeal in a statement on Sunday, as foreign ministers of Arab and Islamic countries attended the emergency Arab-Islamic summit in Doha to discuss the recent Israeli attack on Hamas leaders on Qatari soil.
The senior Hamas official called on regional leaders attending the Doha summit to boycott Israel, isolate it politically and economically, and pursue legal action against its leaders in international courts to halt the genocidal war in Gaza.
Naim further noted that Israel’s attack on the Hamas negotiating team in Doha took place while they were discussing a new Gaza ceasefire proposal.
“We have shown as much flexibility as possible regarding stopping the genocide in Gaza, but it is the occupiers who, through assassinations and imposing their own conditions, are obstructing any potential agreement,” he said.
Naim further stressed that Israel's aggression against Qatar has once again shown the “treacherous nature of the Zionist entity, disregarding covenants and treaties,” as the resistance group has repeatedly warned throughout decades of conflict.
He also emphasized that the region and the world stand at a critical juncture, facing the choice of allowing the enemy to continue its violation of the region's security and stability, especially in light of their expansionist plans for “Greater Israel,” or for the efforts of the nations to unite and halt the establishment of a law of the jungle by Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his “fascist” regime.
Naim also pointed out that "the keenness of the Arab and Islamic leadership to hold an emergency summit in Doha carries deep implications in supporting Qatar and enhancing its security and stability, and discussing the imminent danger resulting from this terrorist aggression."
He concluded by saying that Hamas looks forward for the summit to issue a unified and decisive Arab-Islamic stance, with specific measures such as stopping the aggression and war on Gaza, lifting the siege on it, severing all forms of relations with Israel, prosecuting it for its crimes, and emphasizing the need to end the occupation and secure the legitimate rights of their people to establish an independent state with al-Quds as its capital and the return of refugees.
On September 9, Israel launched airstrikes on the headquarters of Hamas in Doha, in what was described as an “assassination operation” that claimed the lives of several members of the movement as well as a Qatari security officer.
The top Hamas leadership, including Khalil al-Hayya, Khaled Meshal, and Zaher Jabarin, survived the assassination attempt.
Following the deadly strike, Qatar decried Israel’s “cowardly” assault as “state terrorism,” promising to respond to the strikes.
Qatar has been a key regional mediator in negotiations between Hamas and Israel.
