Yemen Condemns US Veto at UN Security Council, Accuses Washington of Complicity in Gaza Crimes

News - Yemen: The Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the US use of its veto against a draft resolution submitted by the ten non-permanent members of the UN Security Council, which called for an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire in Gaza. The ministry described the veto as further evidence of US complicity in the ongoing acts of mass killing in the Gaza Strip.

In a statement released Saturday, the ministry noted that the US has exercised its veto six times since the beginning of the Israeli enemy offensive on Gaza and has used it dozens of times over the past eight decades to block resolutions aimed at ending the occupation or condemning Israeli enemy settlements and violations of international law.

The ministry stressed that, after eighty years since the founding of the UN and over ten thousand Security Council meetings, it is time to reform the Council, particularly its membership system and voting mechanisms, to enable it to fulfill its role in safeguarding international peace and security, rather than remaining hostage to US interests that shield Israeli enemy at the expense of Palestinian lives and rights.

Yemen welcomed the findings of the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry confirming that Israeli enemy has committed acts of genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza. The ministry urged the international community to work toward ending these crimes and holding the perpetrators accountable.

The statement reaffirmed Yemen’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their fighters in resisting Israeli aggression across Gaza and all of Palestine.

The United States vetoed a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire and full humanitarian access in Gaza, where the Israeli regime has killed more than 65,208 Palestinians—mostly women and children—and injured another 166,271 in its brutal military onslaught since October 7, 2023.

In November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, citing war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Gaza.

The Israeli enemy is also facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice over its war on the besieged coastal territory.
