More Countries to Recognize Palestinian State: French Envoy

News - Middle East: A special envoy of French President Emmanuel Macron says “many” countries will recognize the Palestinian state after the end of Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza.

The special envoy of Macron for the Israeli-Palestinian so-called “peace process”, Ofer Bronchtein, said “many others”, including European states, will follow France in recognizing Palestine.

Slamming US President Donald Trump and the Israeli regime over their failure to propose anything tangible for the day after the war is over and the Israeli captives held in Gaza are released, the French envoy said, “The only way to solve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is going to be through diplomacy and political stands.”

“We saw that violence and war are not and will not be resolving this,” he added.

Bronchtein warned that if Paris determines that annexation of the occupied West Bank or other major moves amount to aggression from Israel, “we will deal with Israel like we are dealing with Russia for what it is doing in Ukraine”.

He noted the Israeli cabinet is isolating the entity.

France and several other countries, including Luxembourg, Malta, San Marino, Andorra, and Monaco, formally recognized the Palestinian state on Monday.

A day earlier, Australia, Canada, Portugal, and the United Kingdom formally made the move to recognize Palestine.

The latest recognitions mark a diplomatic defeat for Israel after nearly two years of genocidal war in Gaza.

Israel has launched a genocidal war on Gaza since October 7, 2023, after Palestinian resistance fighters waged the surprise Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the Zionist entity in response to the regime's decades-long campaign of bloodletting and devastation against Palestinians.

The Israeli regime’s bloody onslaught on the besieged strip has so far killed more than 65,419 Palestinians, mostly women and children.

‘Gaza children pay highest price’

Speaking at a high-level event on the Call to Action for Palestinian Children in the West Bank and Gaza, Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot said kids there “are paying the highest price.”

“Children should never be collateral damage.”

Prevot stressed that the suffering of Palestinian children in Gaza and the occupied West Bank is “not inevitable”.

“It is a result of choices, of actions and of inaction, and choices can change,” he added.

Belgium’s top diplomat urged the international community to protect children, respect international humanitarian law and guarantee safe and unimpeded humanitarian access.

“I disagree with those who say that the humanitarian system is broken. It is access that is missing. It is the deliberate decision to deny access,” he stated.

He concluded by calling for immediate action, saying, “If these children can still find the courage to speak, what excuse do we have not to act?”
