Yemeni President Praises Colombian Leader’s Pro-Palestine Stance, Condemns US Position

News - Yemen: Yemen's President Mahdi al-Mashat strongly condemned the US administration’s stance against Colombian President Gustavo Petro following his pro-Palestinian statements in support of Gaza.

In remarks issued Thursday, President al-Mashat hailed the “brave humanitarian position” of President Petro, who called for the formation of an “international army to liberate Palestine and arrest war criminals.”

He noted that the Colombian president’s decision to sever diplomatic ties with the Zionist entity and expel its diplomats was a courageous step that, he said, should have been taken by Arab and Muslim states that normalized relations with the Israeli enemy.

“We stand alongside all free nations  that champion just humanitarian causes, foremost among them the plight of the Palestinian people,” al-Mashat declared, commending the courage of activists in the Global Freedom Flotilla attempting to break the blockade on Gaza and deliver aid.

Al-Mashat condemned the Zionist entity’s acts of maritime piracy preventing the flotilla’s ships from reaching Gaza, stressing that silence in the face of such piracy only emboldens the aggressors.

He criticized the United Nations for failing to uphold its own principles of peace and international security in defense of the Palestinian people.

The president reaffirmed Yemen’s unwavering support for the oppressed people of Gaza in the face of US-Israeli aggression, emphasizing the right of world leaders to express humanitarian positions in international forums.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro, in a bold UN Security Council address, called for “a strong army of nations that do not accept genocide,” urging the liberation of Palestine. The US revoked his visa in response, but Petro dismissed it, saying, “I don’t care.”

He later thanked the Yemeni people for their support, writing on X: “Within the Arab countries, within humanity itself.” Observers noted that his stance reflected growing global resonance, particularly in the Arab world.

In his latest Thursday speech, the leader of the Revolution, Sayyed Abdulmalik al-Houthi, praised Petro’s position as more honorable than that of most Arab and Muslim leaders, noting his call to cut ties with the Israeli enemy and act from genuine human conscience.
