The National Authority for Human Rights at the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights denounced the execution, stating that it “adds to the continuous record of crimes committed by the criminal militias of the Islah Party against prisoners and civilians.”
In its statement, the authority demanded “an urgent and transparent international investigation into this heinous crime, holding accountable those who carried it out, ordered it, or remained silent about it.” The statement also urged the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to fulfill its humanitarian duties by monitoring the situation of prisoners and ensuring such crimes are not repeated.
The authority further stressed the necessity of including the perpetrators and Islah Party leaders implicated in executions and torture on international sanctions lists targeting war criminals.
Meanwhile, the Eye Humanity Center for Rights and Development also condemned the execution, placing full legal and criminal responsibility on the US-Saudi aggression coalition and its mercenaries for this crime and others before and after it.
The center called on the United Nations, ICRC, and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights to launch an immediate investigation and guarantee accountability for the perpetrators.
These condemnations come amid growing demands from local and international rights groups to expose ongoing abuses committed against prisoners in territories controlled by aggression-backed militias. Advocates stress that accountability for such crimes is essential to upholding international humanitarian law and human rights standards.
Prisoner Issa Muqbil al-Afiri was executed by Islah Party militias in Taiz after a fabricated trial and false charges, in a move condemned as a blatant violation of international and humanitarian law. The crime, linked to coalition-backed forces, aims to complicate the prisoners’ issue and obstruct ongoing mediation efforts. Observers say it reflects the militias’ continued abuses and disregard for human rights and justice.
