In statements to Almasirah, the family recounted that al-Afiri had been besieged for two nights inside his home in Hamir al-Wadi area, Maqbanah District, by Islah Party militias and mercenaries loyal to the aggression coalition.
The attackers reportedly fired all types of weapons at the house, where al-Afiri was trapped with his 13-year-old brother, his mother, and his sister, who resisted courageously under dire circumstances.
Despite being surrounded by over twenty armed military vehicles, al-Afeeri refused to surrender, holding firmly to his faith and dignity.
Following his capture in 2016, he was subjected to systematic torture and abuse under the supervision of mercenary leader Sheikh Abdulqadir Hael, who oversaw nearly a decade of physical and psychological torment aimed at breaking his spirit and pressuring his family.
Before his execution two days ago, al-Afiri reportedly said his final words: “Forgive me. We are all on the path of Allah, following the way of the martyrs and the Quranic movement.”
According to the family, the aggression’s militias raided their home repeatedly, leading to the death of his mother three years after his capture, while his younger brother later fell martyr in front-line battles. The family said all attempts to include them in prisoner-exchange deals failed due to obstruction by the aggression’s tools in Taiz.
They affirmed their steadfastness in the Quranic project and loyalty to the leadership of Sayyed Abdulmalik Badr al-Din al-Houthi, vowing to continue on the path of the martyrs despite ongoing threats and persecution.
The family also noted that the aggression’s mercenaries tried to isolate them from the community and prevent any humanitarian or social support, reflecting the revengeful and oppressive practices of the occupation forces and their affiliates in Taiz.
Prisoner Issa Muqbil al-Afiri was executed by Islah Party militias in Taiz after a fabricated trial and false charges, in a move condemned as a blatant violation of international and humanitarian law. The crime, linked to coalition-backed forces, aims to complicate the prisoners’ issue and obstruct ongoing mediation efforts. Observers say it reflects the militias’ continued abuses and disregard for human rights and justice.
