UNICEF Says 'Nowhere Is Safe' in Gaza Amid Israel’s Genocidal War

UNICEF Says 'Nowhere Is Safe' in Gaza Amid Israel’s Genocidal War

News - Middle East: The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has issued a grave warning stating that there is no safe haven in the besieged Gaza Strip as the Israeli regime presses ahead with its genocidal war.

With Israel’s ongoing war on the people of Gaza, the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate, particularly for the youngest and most vulnerable populations.

UNICEF spokesperson James Elder highlighted the dire conditions facing children in Gaza City, where tens of thousands are grappling with severe trauma, injuries, and the loss of family members.

“Children are shaking under relentless airstrikes,” Elder said, emphasizing the brutal environment they endure.

He described the grim reality of the Al-Mawasi area, noting that it has become one of the most densely populated regions globally, lacking essential resources for survival.

“The logic imposed on children is both brutal and contradictory,” he remarked, adding that the images of despair are heart-wrenching.

“You have shoeless children pushing their grandparents through rubble, amputee children struggling through the dust, and mothers carrying exhausted children with severe skin rashes,” he stated.

Elder asserted that while many bear responsibility for the ongoing situation, there remains a singular victim: Palestinian children.

“Yesterday, today, and without meaningful action, tomorrow—it's always the children who suffer,” he said.

He also emphasized that blanket evacuation orders do not eliminate the protection that civilians are entitled to under international law.

“The strength of international law doesn’t lie in paper, but in the resolve of member states to uphold it,” Elder stated, calling for immediate action to address the humanitarian crisis.

As the world watches, Elder warned that normalizing such levels of violence and deprivation signals a profound failure within the international community.

The call to action is clear: urgent measures are required to protect Gaza's children from the horrors of war.

The UN official stressed that the strength of international law doesn’t lie in paper, but in the resolve of member states to uphold it.

Since October 2023, when Israel launched its genocidal war on Gaza, at least 460 Palestinians, including 154 children, have died of hunger as Israel continues to starve the besieged population.

Meanwhile, the ongoing war has killed more than 67,000 Palestinians, the vast majority of them women and children.
