In a statement posted on X, the Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor said that following the ceasefire agreement brokered in Egypt on Monday, “Gaza must finally be open to the world.”
The group stated the world must now be allowed to witness the full extent of destruction, displacement, and human suffering caused by Israel’s campaign of genocide, which has killed nearly 68,000 people, most of them women and children.
“International media, UN investigators, ICC teams, and fact-finding commissions must have unfettered access to document Israel’s genocide and ensure accountability for perpetrators,” the human rights group noted.
Euro-Med warned that any restrictions on access would amount to an attempt to conceal evidence of the Israeli regime’s crimes against Palestinians.
Throughout the two years of genocide, Israel imposed a crippling blockade on Gaza, severely restricted humanitarian aid, and conducted relentless air and ground assaults that left civilians trapped in catastrophic conditions.
According to the monitor, the regime's forces have systematically targeted journalists and media institutions, killing at least 254 Palestinian journalists, destroying dozens of media offices, and barring international correspondents from entering Gaza.
“Covering Gaza remains a moral and humanitarian duty for the international media,” Euro-Med said, adding that reporting on developments in the territory is “a moral obligation towards the victims of one of the most brutal crimes of modern times.”
The organization also called for immediate and unconditional access for forensic and criminal investigation teams—with the necessary equipment—to assist in recovering victims’ bodies from beneath the rubble and identifying the missing.
Euro-Med's appeal comes amid growing international calls for transparency and justice following the ceasefire, with human rights groups warning that without independent access, Israel could once again manipulate narratives and evade accountability.
Humanitarian groups reiterate that documenting war crimes and the full scale of destruction in Gaza is essential not only for justice but also for any credible reconstruction and peace process to take shape.
This comes amid growing unease among Arab countries that helped broker the October 13 ceasefire in Egypt, as Israel’s long record of violating truces and its lack of credibility as a peace partner cast doubt on the deal’s durability.
According to a report by Bloomberg, officials across the region have expressed major concerns about the reliability of the Israeli regime and the absence of concrete mechanisms to enforce the deal’s terms.
