News - Middle East: US protesters have staged nationwide “No Kings” rallies, calling for unity and denouncing President Donald Trump to express outrage at his monarch-like conduct.

Millions of protesters from different walks of society chanted “No More Trump!” as they waved American flags on Saturday, attending mass “No Kings” rallies held in thousands of cities and locations in all fifty states of the country.

Protesters at all the “No Kings” rallies collectively condemned Trump, who they said was acting like a monarch. However, the demonstrations comprised predominantly of Democratic politicians, teachers, lawyers, military veterans and fired government workers. Children and grandmothers, students and retirees were also among the demonstrators.

They said they were outraged over immigration raids, the deployment of federal troops in cities, government layoffs, steep budget cuts, the chipping away of voting rights, the rollback of vaccine requirements, the reversal on treaties with tribes, as well as Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” which they said is benefiting the ultra wealthy while impoverishing the rest of the nation.

Many of the demonstrators had attended a similar protest in June, but the number of demonstrators has increased

Speaking at the “No Kings” rally in Washington, DC, Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, an Independent known for his progressive views, said the US political system has been hijacked by the ultra-wealthy who seek to make themselves richer at the expense of working people.

“We will not move toward authoritarianism in America. We the people will rule,” Sanders said.

“There is nothing more American than saying, ‘We don’t have kings’ and exercising our right to peacefully protest,” said Leah Greenberg, co-founder of Indivisible, a US-based grassroots movement and one of the organizers of the anti-Trump protests of Saturday.

Many of the demonstrators were also united in saying the Trump administration needed to show basic humanity in domestic and international affairs.

“We can argue and debate policies and ways that we can solve problems,” said Chris Scharman, a lawyer who attended a rally in Salt Lake City. “But we shouldn’t be debating the value of people.”

Trump and his lackeys “want us to believe resistance is futile, but every person who turned out today proved the opposite,” said Ezra Levin, another co-founder of Indivisible.
