Qalibaf made the remarks during a meeting with Iraqi National Security Advisor Qassem al-Araji in Tehran on Tuesday.
“This memorandum of understanding outlines the beginning of a pivotal move towards establishing sustainable security for both nations and the wider region,” he said.
Qalibaf also hailed the “strong and multifaceted relations” between Iran and Iraq, encompassing political, economic, cultural, religious, and particularly security aspects.
He also expressed hope that the security agreement between Iran and Iraq could contribute to enhanced stability and deeper bilateral relations.
Qalibaf underscored the threat posed by the Israeli regime, supported by the United States, following the recent events in the region. He emphasized the critical role of Iran and Iraq among Islamic, Arab, and non-Arab nations.
The Iranian Parliament speaker also highlighted the importance of security pacts in unifying against the existing dangers for the Islamic world.
“Today, we are not worried about the existence of danger on the borders of the two countries, but we are seeking to have greater and more sustainable stability and security on the borders, while prioritizing economic and cultural ties and regional influence.”
Qalibaf said it was imperative for Iran and Iraq to work for broader economic relations, including in transportation, industrial parks, and knowledge-based initiatives.
Araji, for his part, said, “We believe that Iran's security and Iraq's security are interconnected, and we adhere to the security agreement we signed with Tehran, and we emphasize the need to continue the talks.”
The top Iraqi security official said foreign pressure cannot have a negative influence on the relations with Iran, given the extensive bond between the two nations.
He also mentioned the formation of a field committee to address any implementation issues related to the bilateral security agreement.
Heading a ranking security delegation, Araji arrived in Tehran on Monday to hold talks with Iranian officials.
Iran enjoys close trade ties with Iraq, while the two nations also have a very good level of cooperation.
In August 2025, Iran and Iraq signed a memorandum of understanding in Baghdad to boost security along the border.
