Gaza Rescuers Struggle to Save Trapped Palestinians Amid Renewed Israeli Strikes: Gaza Official

News- Middle East: The spokesperson for Gaza’s Civil Defense agency, Mahmoud Basal said rescuers are struggling to save the wounded and recover the dead bodies trapped under the concrete debris left by Israel’s renewed deadly strikes on the besieged strip.

“The teams are still making great efforts to reach citizens trapped under the rubble, while hospitals are overwhelmed with the wounded and those in critical condition,” Basal said on Wednesday.

The Gaza official said the Israeli strikes "targeted homes, tents and gatherings in various cities," on Tuesday as the assault continued into Wednesday morning, with the death toll "expected to rise."

The spokesman denounced the silence of the international community and world organizations following the most recent massacre by the Israeli military.

“The continuation of these crimes amidst the world’s silence is an unforgivable moral and humanitarian failure,” Basal stated.

“What is happening in Gaza today is a disgrace to humanity and highlights the international community’s complicity through its silence in these violations.”

The government body called for an end to Israel’s attacks on Gaza, protection of civilians, rescuers and medical staff, and delivery of fuel, equipment and other needed supplies.

Palestinians in Gaza have endured the deadliest 24 hours since the ceasefire between Israel and the Hamas resistance movement took effect nearly three weeks ago, as Israeli warplanes unleashed a new wave of strikes across the already devastated enclave.

Dr. Khalil Al-Daqran, the spokesperson for the Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza, said that since Tuesday night more than 104 people had been killed, including 40 children and 20 women. He said more than 250 people, including 70 children, were injured.

In a statement on Wednesday, Hamas accused the US of being complicit in helping Israel “impose new realities by force” in Gaza.

“The treacherous escalation against our people in Gaza reveals a clear Israeli intention to undermine the ceasefire agreement and impose new realities by force, under the cover of American complicity that grants Netanyahu’s fascist government political cover to continue its crimes,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has praised the health department of the Republic of Ireland and its workers for receiving seven “critically sick and injured patients and 29 companions from Gaza” who were evacuated last week.

Ghebreyesus urged more countries to “show solidarity” and accept patients from the war-ravaged territory to “save the lives of those who urgently need advanced care that is currently unavailable in Gaza.”

In August UN experts warned that Israel was committing “medicide” in Gaza through the systematic destruction of the territory’s healthcare system.

The US-Israeli genocidal war, which began in October 2023, has so far claimed over 68,600 lives in Gaza.
