Mohammad al-Munirawi, a journalist with Palestine Newspaper, and his spouse lost their lives during aggression by the military against the Nuseirat Refugee Camp on Wednesday, Gaza’s Government Media Office reported.
The fatalities were caused amid drastic violation by the regime of the agreement that was reached in Egypt during indirect talks between the regime and Gaza’s Hamas resistance movement.
At least 211 Gazans have been killed during such breaches.
The violations escalated markedly on Tuesday, when 104 people, including 46 children and 20 women, were slain and 235 others injured.
The victims perished after Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered “immediate, powerful” strikes on the coastal sliver amid accusations by Israeli authorities of Hamas’ targeting Israeli troops in Rafah in the coastal sliver’s southern region. The group has roundly rejected the claims.
Al-Munirawi’s untimely death, meanwhile, took to 256, the number of the journalists, who have been killed since October 2023, when the regime began the genocide.
Numerous reports have pointed to systematic and deliberate targeting of many of the victims, including those working for mainstream media organizations and hugely popular and daring figures within the Palestinian journalistic community.
International human rights bodies, journalist rights organizations, and Palestinians themselves have invariably denounced the deaths as an unmistakable pattern of targeting the professionals to silence the truth regarding the genocide.
Including the journalists, the war has so far killed at least 68,643 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and wounded 170,655 others.
