Mohammad Raad, head of Loyalty to the Resistance Bloc – the political wing of Hezbollah – in the Lebanese parliament, stated on Saturday that the Resistance front and its forces show much patience and endure hardships to preserve Lebanon’s dignity and national sovereignty.
“Out of a deep concern for national sovereignty, sacrifices are made willingly,” he said, emphasizing that Hezbollah, even in the face of numerous sacrifices, remains deeply committed to its principles and surrender has no place in its teachings.
“Any concession to the enemy, any show of so-called understanding, or any attempt to justify their flimsy pretexts for aggression won’t stop the Israeli blackmail. Such an approach will instead embolden the Zionist regime to stage more attacks until it can usurp our entire homeland,” the senior Lebanese lawmaker said.
Raad noted that the cost of resilience in the face of Israeli attacks is much less than the cost of surrender and capitulation.
“Regrettably, certain voices advocate yielding to the enemy, misguided by the illusion that this stance safeguards their interests and solidifies their standing within the state,” he stated.
He stated that the campaign against the electoral law “is aimed at undermining the representation of Hezbollah and its supporters within the parliament, in a bid to control the administration of the country and to achieve their factional interests, as they envision.”
The anti–Resistance team, led by the Lebanese Forces party, is seeking to amend Electoral Law 144/2017, under which the 2018 and 2022 parliamentary elections were held, to suit their political interests. This would add six expatriate seats (distributed across six continents) to the 128 parliamentary seats, bringing the total number of representatives to 134.
However, several parliamentary blocs object to the Lebanese Forces’ monopoly on expatriate votes, as the principle of equal political rights does not extend to Hezbollah and the Amal Movement voters abroad, particularly since Hezbollah is listed as a terrorist organization in several Arab and Western countries.
Raad finally said, “It is necessary to condemn the US administration and to question the credibility of its claim of friendship with Lebanon,” following acknowledgment of President Donald Trump that Washington is complicit in the 2024 pager attacks.
