Scenes circulating from Marib show the dire conditions of these wounded fighters—some on wheelchairs, others with prosthetic limbs or missing hands—expressing their frustration at being abandoned, while officials of the so-called “traitor government” live comfortably in Riyadh hotels, enjoying the rewards of positions earned at the expense of those same men.
Repeated visits by minor officials and local figures have brought no change, deepening the pain of those who sacrificed their limbs for the Saudi and Emirati agenda. Their remaining demands are now modest—basic medicine or treatment abroad—after years of neglect and false promises.
Over ten years of war have revealed a clear pattern: the Saudi and Emirati regimes, driven by colonial ambitions, discard their local proxies once they are no longer useful. Those lured into fighting against the Yemeni Army and Popular Committees have found themselves without compensation, protection, or dignity, as Riyadh and Abu Dhabi abandoned them after failing to secure a military victory in Yemen.
The same story repeats across occupied territories, including Taiz, where wounded mercenaries face similar neglect and protest for their unpaid salaries and lack of medical care. These scenes expose the true face of the Saudi-Emirati-backed “traitor government,” which continues to exploit and discard Yemenis for foreign interests.
The crisis in Marib is not merely financial—it is a reflection of the broader policy of the Saudi-Emirati coalition: recruiting Yemenis as mercenaries to fight their own people, then forsaking them once their utility ends. The plight of the wounded in Marib stands as a stark testament to the failure and betrayal inherent in the aggression’s proxy war strategy.
From the outset of their aggression in 2015, Saudi Arabia and the UAE pursued a long-term plan to occupy Yemen under the guise of “restoring legitimacy.” Their strategy relied on creating and financing local proxy forces—mercenaries tasked with fighting the Yemeni Army and securing key regions for foreign control. Through these proxies, Riyadh sought dominance over northern and eastern areas, while Abu Dhabi focused on southern ports and islands, notably Aden and Socotra.
