Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said on Sunday that the continuation of Gaza’s blockade, along with restrictions on debris removal and the reconstruction of health and vital infrastructure, has deepened the humanitarian crisis in the besieged territory amid cold and rainy weather.
He condemned these actions as part of Israel’s “policy of genocide” against the Palestinian people.
According to Gaza’s Civil Defense, dozens of tents sheltering displaced families in the Al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis were inundated with rainwater after three consecutive days of heavy rainfall and strong winds. Meteorologists forecast an improvement in conditions by Sunday evening.
Baghaei also condemned Israeli settlers for escalating attacks in the West Bank, desecrating holy sites including Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Ibrahimi Mosque, and carrying out arbitrary arrests and torture of Palestinians.
He stressed that the international community bears both legal and moral responsibility to halt the crimes committed by the occupying regime.
Baghaei argued that the situation in the West Bank reflects a continuation of Israel’s “colonial extermination” policy, which he said has led to the massacre of tens of thousands of civilians in Gaza over the past two years.
The spokesman further said that the military and political support extended by the United States and certain European countries to Israel has made them complicit. He emphasized the need to end impunity for war criminals and those responsible for genocide.
Despite the so-called ceasefire being implemented in October, Israeli forces continued to sporadically bomb Gaza, with hundreds of Palestinians having been killed over the past few weeks.
More than 80 percent of structures have been destroyed, leaving large swathes of the besieged territory uninhabitable - a situation expected to become catastrophic with the onset of winter. Incoming aid remains slow and insufficient.
