Foreign Ministry: UN Security Council Resolution on Gaza 'Grants Full Legitimacy to Foreign Guardianship'

News - Yemen: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the latest UN Security Council resolution on Gaza, describing it as “a full legitimization of foreign guardianship” and a blatant interference in Palestinian affairs that constitutes a serious violation of Palestinian sovereignty.

In a statement issued on Monday, the ministry said the resolution represents “a clear attempt to complete what the occupation failed to achieve through two years of genocide,” stressing that Washington is using the Security Council to advance its own agenda and reshape the Palestinian cause in favor of the Zionist project.

The ministry emphasized that the resolution disregarded the “inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them ending the occupation, achieving self-determination, and establishing an independent Palestinian state on the entirety of its national territory.” Any initiatives that circumvent these rights, it noted, “are doomed to fail and disappear.”

The statement further criticized the Security Council’s ongoing inability to adopt any measure compelling the Israeli enemy to halt its offensive on Gaza, despite “crimes that shame humanity.”

It also held Arab and Islamic states responsible for failing to exert sufficient pressure to ensure that Palestinian rights were embedded in the resolution, instead “embracing positions that weaken the Palestinian stance and undermine its sovereignty.”

Reaffirming Yemen’s position, the ministry stated that the Palestinian issue remains the central cause of the Arab and Islamic nations, and that genuine peace can only be achieved by ending the injustice against the Palestinian people and enabling them to realize all their legitimate rights.

The statement concluded by reiterating Yemen’s “principled and unwavering” support for the Palestinian right to end occupation, aggression, and blockade, and to establish an independent state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

The UN Security Council’s latest Gaza resolution has stirred significant controversy for establishing an unusual, US-driven framework to manage the Strip during the ceasefire. The plan places US President Donald Trump at the head of a new “Board of Peace,” which will oversee a multinational stabilisation force, a committee of Palestinian technocrats, and a new police structure — all operating outside traditional UN authority.

The resolution grants these bodies broad powers despite major uncertainties, including which countries will join the security force, how it will operate in areas still held by Israeli troops, and how it intends to “demilitarize” Gaza without triggering direct confrontation with resistance factions. Hamas has already rejected any disarmament.

The text, passed 13–0 with Russia and China abstaining, also avoids affirming Palestinians’ established right to self-determination, instead offering only a conditional future “pathway” to statehood. Supporters backed it largely out of desperation after two years of devastating Israeli attacks that have killed tens of thousands and razed much of Gaza.

Critics argue the resolution effectively imposes foreign guardianship over Gaza, giving Washington sweeping influence while sidelining core Palestinian rights.
