December 16 Over Nine Years: A Black Day of Saudi-US Crimes Against Yemenis

News – Yemen: December 16 marks one of the darkest days in Yemen’s modern history, as the Saudi-US-Emirati aggression has repeatedly carried out large-scale airstrikes and attacks across multiple provinces over the past nine years, resulting in the martyrdom and injury of hundreds of civilians and the widespread destruction of public and private property.

On December 16, 2015, warplanes of the aggression targeted a wedding ceremony in Dhubab district, Taiz governorate, killing and wounding several citizens. Additional airstrikes hit the Warzan area in Dhamnat Khadir district, while mercenaries shelled the Al-Jadeed area and the northern part of the Al-Omari triangle with tank fire and machine guns.

In Shabwah, an airstrike in Aqabat Bayhan killed a poultry truck driver and his companion. Similar attacks struck residential areas, farms, and infrastructure in Hajjah, Sa’adah, Hodeidah, Marib, Al-Jawf, and Asir, causing extensive civilian losses and material damage.

On December 16, 2016, two citizens were martyred when aggression warplanes struck a civilian vehicle in Al-Aqiq area, Kataf district, Sa’adah. Airstrikes, artillery shelling, and cluster bombs targeted several districts in Sa’adah, Hodeidah, Sana’a, Taiz, Lahj, Marib, and Al-Jawf.

That same day, citizen Abdullah Ali Al-Thabati was shot dead by aggression mercenaries in Al-Abdiyah district, south of Marib, due to his national stance rejecting the aggression.

December 16, 2017, witnessed one of the deadliest massacres, as more than 20 citizens—mostly women and children—were martyred in airstrikes on Al-Mazari’ah village in Al-Khokha district, Hodeidah. Additional strikes hit markets, homes, farms, and mountainous areas in Taiz, Hajjah, Sa’adah, Al-Jawf, Lahj, and border regions, alongside intensive Apache helicopter attacks.

On December 16, 2018, two children were martyred and their father wounded when aggression warplanes bombed their truck in Al-Baidha. Residential neighborhoods, farms, factories, hotels, and civilian facilities in Hodeidah, Dhamar, Hajjah, Sa’adah, and Al-Jawf were subjected to airstrikes, artillery shelling, and heavy gunfire, leaving numerous civilians injured and properties damaged.

On December 16, 2019, aggression mercenaries intensified attacks on Hodeidah city and its districts, targeting neighborhoods, the airport, educational facilities, and civilian homes with artillery and heavy machine guns, while airstrikes struck Sa’adah and Asir.

On December 16, 2020, Saudi border guards wounded two citizens in Munabbih district, Sa’adah, as warplanes carried out airstrikes in Sa’adah and Marib. In Hodeidah, mercenaries fired hundreds of artillery shells and established military fortifications in agricultural areas.

On December 16, 2021, aggression warplanes launched dozens of airstrikes on Marib, Taiz, Al-Jawf, and Hodeidah, while mercenaries continued shelling various residential areas with artillery, rockets, and small arms.

On December 16, 2022, seven citizens were martyred and others injured when aggression mercenaries shelled a gathering of Al-Huraidan clan members in Wadi Abidah, east of Marib. The attack included artillery, tanks, and heavy weapons, igniting a fuel tanker, against the backdrop of cutting diesel supplies used to irrigate their farms. Mercenary shelling also targeted multiple areas in Hodeidah.

These recurring crimes underscore a consistent pattern of targeting civilians, livelihoods, and vital infrastructure, reinforcing Yemenis’ calls for accountability and an end to the Saudi-US-Emirati aggression.

Since March 2015, Yemen has been subjected to a sustained Saudi-American-Emirati aggression marked by intensive airstrikes, ground attacks, and a comprehensive blockade that has devastated the country’s civilian infrastructure and humanitarian situation.

According to local and international reports, the aggression has systematically targeted residential neighborhoods, markets, farms, roads, weddings, and public facilities, resulting in the martyrdom and injury of thousands of civilians, the majority of them women and children.

The continuation of these attacks, alongside economic strangulation and fuel restrictions, has deepened one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, amid persistent international silence and the absence of accountability for war crimes committed against the Yemeni people.
