News - Yemen: Scholars and preachers in Yemen's Red Sea port province of Hodeidah held a large gathering Thursday to denounce the "American crime" of insulting the Quran.

In a statement issued from the meeting, the religious leaders strongly condemned the blatant assault on Muslim sanctities and a clear disregard for the feelings of the Islamic nation. They held the United States, Britain, and the "Zionist enemy" fully responsible, framing it as an extension of an aggressive policy targeting Islam and its holy sites.

The statement asserted that such crimes reveal the extent of Western contempt, led by America, for Muslims and their beliefs, and that their repetition exposes the true nature of a project hostile to the nation.

The scholars and preachers emphasized that insulting the Quran constitutes clear evidence of the necessity for practical action against "America and Israel" and declaring disavowal from them. They called on all Muslims to bear their religious and moral responsibilities in confronting these violations.

They further argued that repeated assaults by Jews on Muslim sanctities present an undeniable argument against all those within the nation who are idle, hesitant, or passive, stating that silence in the face of such crimes encourages their continuation and escalation.

The participants reaffirmed that defending the Quran and the nation's sanctities is a religious duty that admits no compromise, renewing their pledge to remain steadfast in confronting the forces of arrogance and aggression.

The statements come amid a wave of mass demonstrations and official condemnations in Yemen following repeated incidents of Qur’an desecration linked to US political figures, alongside continued Israeli aggression in Gaza and violations of Islamic holy sites. Yemeni officials, scholars, and commentators say these provocations are part of a broader US–Zionist campaign targeting Islamic identity, prompting calls for sustained popular mobilization, cultural and educational action, and coordinated responses across the Islamic world to deter further abuses and defend religious sanctities.
