News - Middle East: Member of the Supreme Political Council, Abdulaziz Saleh bin Habtoor, strongly condemned the arrest of Al Mayadeen Network journalist Mohammed Faraj, calling for his immediate release.

Bin Habtoor affirmed the full solidarity of Yemeni media with Faraj, praising him as a journalist “known for professional competence, for standing with the causes of ordinary people, and for his commitment to the causes of his homeland and nation.” 

He urged Jordanian, Arab, and international media and press bodies to show solidarity with Faraj and to exert pressure on the Jordanian authorities to secure his release.

According to Al Mayadeen, journalist Mohammed Faraj was arrested at Amman airport approximately one week ago. The network reported that he was interrogated in isolation and that a decision was taken to detain him without any official announcement of the reasons.

Al Mayadeen further stated that the Jordanian authorities have not provided any information regarding Faraj’s current location or the charges under investigation. 

No explanation has been provided regarding his legal status or detention conditions, and his family has reportedly received no response or clarification regarding his situation.

The arrest of journalists for their professional work reflects an escalating crackdown on independent media in the region, marked by arbitrary detention and lack of legal transparency. 

Such practices are widely seen as efforts to silence critical reporting on sensitive regional issues, including the crimes of the Israeli enemy and its supporters, and to undermine the public’s right to information.
