In an article titled “The carnage in Yemen deserves the world’s full attention” by writer Samuel Ramani, the newspaper focused on recent clashes in the southern and eastern governorates between forces loyal to the Emirati occupation and mercenaries affiliated with its Saudi counterpart.
It said these conflicts have pushed Yemen “to the brink of fragmentation,” referring to the UAE-backed secession project.
The report noted that the so-called Southern Transitional Council (STC) has taken control of Hadramout, Al-Mahrah, Aden, and most remaining areas in southern Yemen, placing the occupied governorates on the verge of a bloody confrontation between Riyadh’s and Abu Dhabi’s mercenaries.
It added that forces aligned with Saudi Arabia have prepared some 20,000 fighters, signaling an impending new round of conflict in the Saudi-Emirati struggle for influence.
The Telegraph cautioned that ongoing security vacuums in southern Yemen could enable criminal organizations, including Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, to expand their activity.
Despite a decline in such groups in recent years, the paper warned that prolonged instability could allow them to re-emerge as a cross-border terrorist threat, criticizing the weak and complicit stance of the United Nations and urging the international community to push for a comprehensive peace settlement in Yemen.
The occupied southern governorates of Yemen have become a battleground for Saudi- and UAE-backed forces, creating a severe security vacuum and leaving civilians exposed to violence, displacement, and exploitation. This chaos provides fertile ground for extremist and criminal groups, including ISIS and Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, to regroup and expand their operations.
Observers warn that the ongoing clashes are not only deepening Yemen’s humanitarian catastrophe but also threatening regional stability, as the struggle for control fuels lawlessness, arms proliferation, and cross-border terrorism.
