News - Yemen: Yemen’s Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Abdulwahid Abu Ras has reaffirmed the long-standing historical relations between Yemen and Russia, praising Moscow’s “balanced positions” regarding Yemen at the UN Security Council.

In a video call on Tuesday with Russia’s Ambassador to Yemen, Yevgeny Kudrov, Abu Ras commended Russia’s approach. At the same time, the Russian envoy stressed his country’s commitment to supporting peace efforts in Yemen and ending the humanitarian suffering of the Yemeni people.

In a separate video meeting with the UN Regional Coordinator for Engagement on Detained UN Staff, Moein Ahmad Shreim, Abu Ras outlined legal measures taken by the government against espionage cells involved in crimes affecting national security, including an alleged plot targeting the head and members of the government. He said the measures were taken in accordance with national laws and in line with international human rights law.

Abu Ras reiterated the government’s keenness to strengthen communication and build confidence with the UN and international organizations, pledging to provide all necessary facilitation to ensure the success of humanitarian operations aimed at alleviating civilian suffering.

He also urged the UN to address shortcomings associated with the work of some affiliated organizations in recent periods, underscoring that Yemen’s sovereignty, security, and stability remain an untouchable priority above all other considerations.

For his part, Shreim affirmed the UN commitment to maintaining relations with Yemen and continuing joint cooperation to meet the needs of the Yemeni people.

Yemen has repeatedly emphasized cooperation with international partners while asserting sovereignty amid ongoing political and humanitarian challenges linked to the prolonged conflict. Russia has maintained diplomatic engagement on Yemen at the UN, advocating political solutions, while the UN continues to play a central humanitarian and mediation role in the country.
