Yemen Signs Comprehensive Agreement to Recover, Hand Over Bodies Across All Fronts

News - Yemen: Head of Yemen’s National Committee for Prisoners’ Affairs Brig. Gen. Abdulqader Al-Mortadha announced the signing of a comprehensive agreement with all parties to recover and hand over bodies from all fronts and regions without exception.

In a press statement, Al-Mortadha said the agreement was reached under the direct sponsorship and supervision of the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). He confirmed the formation of specialized field committees tasked with recovering bodies from various battle axes, ahead of their handover to families under ICRC supervision, in a manner that preserves the dignity of the deceased and the rights of their relatives.

Al-Mortadha reiterated Sana'a’s firm commitment not to leave any prisoner or missing person in the custody of the “coalition,” stressing that efforts are ongoing at a high pace to fully close this humanitarian file in all its aspects. He expressed hope that the agreement’s implementation would be completed before the holy month of Ramadan, describing it as a “major humanitarian relief” for thousands of Yemeni families.

He also described the latest prisoner exchange agreement as “historic,” noting that it aims to definitively resolve the cases of prisoners, detainees, missing persons, and bodies, away from political bargaining and in service of a comprehensive humanitarian track.

The agreement comes amid renewed UN- and ICRC-brokered efforts to address humanitarian consequences of Yemen’s prolonged conflict, including unresolved cases of prisoners, missing persons, and unrecovered remains across multiple battlefields.
