In a post published Sunday evening on his X account, Al-Farah explained that December 2, 1971, represented a pivotal moment when Saudi Arabia became the first country to officially recognize the newly established United Arab Emirates. At that time, he said, the UAE had limited resources and was seeking to consolidate its political and regional presence, relying on recognition and support from its regional surroundings to ensure stability and survival.
He added that today, after shifts in the balance of power, Saudi Arabia finds itself in Sudan, Yemen, and Libya, effectively seeking recognition, political backing, and regional pathways shaped by the UAE. “Such is politics,” Al-Farah said. “Those who grant recognition one day may seek it another, and those who fail to read transformations are often caught off guard by time.”
The remarks come amid ongoing regional realignments linked to conflicts in Yemen, Sudan, and Libya, where competing regional agendas and alliances continue to reshape influence and political leverage. Observers note that evolving power dynamics in the Gulf and wider region have led to recalibrations in relationships and roles among key actors.
