Supreme Political Council Warns Over Israeli Recognition of Somaliland

News - Yemen: Yemen's Supreme Political Council (SPC) has issued a vehement condemnation of Israel's recognition of the breakaway region of Somaliland, labeling it an "aggressive and blatant step" and a violation of Somali sovereignty that threatens the security of the entire Red Sea region.

In a strongly worded statement released on Monday, the SPC expressed its full solidarity with the Somali people and their right to maintain territorial unity and national sovereignty. The council framed Israel's move as part of a broader expansionist scheme aimed at destabilizing both the Arab and African regions by fragmenting nations and creating new hotspots of tension.

The statement affirmed that this recognition by an "usurping entity" lacking legitimacy itself is designed to establish an Israeli intelligence and military foothold on strategic coastlines. The SPC warned that such a presence would constitute a direct threat to Arab and Islamic national security and would undermine regional stability.

Issuing a direct military warning, the SPC cautioned the Israeli enemy against any attempts to use Somali territory as a base for "aggressive agendas." It declared that the consequences of such a "dangerous path" would not be confined to Somalia but would impact the security of the entire region and "will not pass without a response."

The statement went further, asserting that any Israeli presence or activity in Somali lands would be considered "explicit aggression" and would become a "military target for our Armed Forces," as it represents a threat to Yemeni, Arab, and Islamic national security. It emphasized that such a presence would not be accepted as a fait accompli.

The council also placed full political, legal, and moral responsibility on parties within Somaliland cooperating with the Israeli enemy, calling for an immediate halt to any steps paving the way for partition or disguised normalization.

Reiterating its foundational principles, the SPC reaffirmed its stance against normalization with the Israeli enemy and its support for the Palestinian cause as the "first line of defense" for the nation's dignity and security. It warned that compromising on this issue opens the door to the exploitation of nations' resources and the sequential targeting of their states.

The statement concluded by calling on nations bordering the Red Sea, the broader Arab and Islamic world, and relevant international bodies to take "practical and urgent steps" to thwart the Zionist plan aimed at "violation and partition," and to safeguard Somali sovereignty and regional stability.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Friday that Tel Aviv had formally recognized Somaliland as an “independent and sovereign state” and signed an agreement to establish diplomatic relations.

The move has drawn widespread international condemnation, including from Somalia, the African Union, the Arab League, and several regional powers, who view it as a violation of Somalia's territorial integrity.

Addressing an emergency joint session of parliament on Sunday, Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said Netanyahu had committed the “greatest abuse” of Somalia’s sovereignty in the nation’s history.
