In a statement, the bureau said the Israeli enemy recognition is an illegitimate step issued by an illegitimate entity that has no legal standing to recognize states. It stressed that such a move requires Arab and Islamic regimes to shoulder their responsibilities toward collective and regional security.
The statement underscored the importance of coordinated efforts by Arab and Islamic nations, both governments and peoples, to thwart Israeli enemy interference and to support the Somali people. It warned that silence in the face of actions targeting Somalia would only entrench what it termed comprehensive Israeli enemy encroachment.
Somaliland, a self-declared republic in northern Somalia, has sought international recognition since the early 1990s, though it remains unrecognized by the United Nations and most of the international community. Somalia’s federal government considers Somaliland an integral part of its sovereign territory, and any foreign engagement with the region is viewed as highly sensitive and potentially destabilizing for the Horn of Africa.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Friday that the entity had formally recognized Somaliland as an “independent and sovereign state” and signed an agreement to establish diplomatic relations.
The move has drawn widespread international condemnation, including from Somalia, the African Union, the Arab League, and several regional powers, who view it as a violation of Somalia's territorial integrity.
Addressing an emergency joint session of parliament on Sunday, Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said Netanyahu had committed the “greatest abuse” of Somalia’s sovereignty in the nation’s history.
