Shura Council Condemns Israeli Enemy’s Recognition of 'Somaliland'

Shura Council Condemns Israeli Enemy’s Recognition of 'Somaliland'

News - Middle East: Yemen’s Shura Council has strongly condemned the Israeli entity’s announcement recognizing the so-called “Somaliland Region” as a separate entity from the Federal Republic of Somalia, describing the move as a blatant violation of Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In a statement, the council said the hostile step falls within Israeli enemy expansionist schemes aimed at destabilizing the region, undermining its security and stability, and constituting a flagrant breach of international law and UN charters.

The council warned that the Israeli enemy recognition sets a dangerous precedent and represents an attempt by the occupying entity of Arab lands in Palestine to create new tensions in Somalia, while threatening international navigation in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, and the Horn of Africa.

It reaffirmed its support for the positions outlined in the speech of the Leader of the Revolution and the statement of the political leadership regarding the adoption of necessary measures to protect Yemen’s sovereignty, unity, security, and stability.

The council also reiterated Yemen’s principled and steadfast stance in support of Somalia’s unity—land and people—its rejection of all forms of normalization with the Israeli enemy, and its solidarity with the causes of the Arab and Islamic nation, foremost among them the Palestinian cause and its right to confront Israeli enemy threats and colonial plans in the region.

The Shura Council called on the Association of Senates and Shura Councils in Africa and the Arab world to condemn the Israeli announcement and to address this serious escalation during their deliberations, warning that it constitutes blatant interference in Somalia’s internal affairs and a grave violation of its sovereignty and territorial unity.

The statement further cautioned against any engagement or collusion with the Israeli enemy over the recognition, stressing that such actions contravene the principles of international law and the UN Charter and carry serious repercussions for international peace and security, as well as Arab national security.

The council urged the international community and the UN to break “shameful silence” over Israel’s violations and to take firm positions, assuming their legal and moral responsibilities to halt Israeli aggressive and expansionist practices in the region.

On Friday, the Israeli enemy announced its recognition of the self-declared “Somaliland” region, a move that lacks any international legal basis.

Somaliland declared unilateral independence from Somalia in 1991, but to date has not been recognized by any UN member state, with Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity remaining internationally affirmed.

The step followed months of reports indicating contacts involving the Israeli enemy and the US with authorities in Somaliland, as well as other locations, in the context of regional arrangements linked to Gaza.

The Zionist entity has attempted to portray the move as an extension of the US-sponsored Abraham Accords, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stating he would seek US backing during an upcoming meeting with President Donald Trump.
