Yemen Seeks Action, Arab World Criticized for Israel's Somaliland Recognition

News - Yemen: Nasr al-Din Amer, Chairman of the Board of Yemen's Saba News Agency, has forcefully argued that Israel's move to recognize Somaliland constitutes an "act of aggression" that demands an immediate transition from verbal condemnation to deterrent military action from affected nations.

In an interview with Almasirah TV on Monday, Amer dismissed Israel's diplomatic maneuver as part of a broader project of "Greater Israel" and reshaping a "New Middle East" through a Zionist lens. He stressed that an entity " lacking in legitimacy" cannot confer legitimacy upon others, framing the step as an assault on the sovereignty of an Arab and Islamic nation aimed at fragmenting the region and exacerbating crises in Somalia, Sudan, and neighboring areas.

Amer launched a sharp critique of the official Arab response, describing it as "failure" and "formalistic." He questioned why Arab and Islamic states, especially those bordering the Red Sea, have not taken concrete measures such as recalling ambassadors, cancelling normalization agreements, imposing economic sanctions, halting trade, filing international legal complaints, or cutting aid to the Israeli enemy. He argued that the political will is absent, stating, "Who did not move to support Gaza will not move today to support Somalia."

Referencing the warning issued by the leader of the revolution, Sayyed Abdulmalik al-Houthi, Amer emphasized that Yemen considers any Israeli military activity in the region a "legitimate target." He stated that "military action is only confronted with reciprocal military action," and that it is "abnormal" to remain silent while an enemy completes logistical arrangements to besiege seas and harm Arab peoples.

Amer outlined what he termed the "pre-emptive strategy" of the leader's warning, explaining that announcing the intent to target any Israeli presence in Somaliland serves multiple purposes: to warn Somalia against becoming entangled in a conflict serving Israeli interests before its territory is turned into military bases, to protect the region by cutting off enemy attempts to create internal strife, and to alert regional populations to the dangers.

He concluded with a stark warning, asserting that the "Zionist enemy" views all parties—both resistors and those normalizing relations—with equal hostility, merely prioritizing its targets differently. He urged Arab states to awaken, contrasting the Jewish planning and action with Arab talk and inaction—a equation he affirmed Yemen is striving to break by imposing a new reality on the ground to protect Arab and Islamic sovereignty.

Earlier on Monday, South Africa warned that Israel’s decision to recognize Somaliland as an independent state is a “direct threat” to peace in the Horn of Africa.

The country’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the recognition violates Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“Israel’s action validates fragmentation and risks a domino effect of instability,” it stressed.
